Literature Text

Lady Death hath ta’en my heart, and ne'er shall I hold once more the love I thought I craved.  She holds my soul within her soft, cold grasp, and I watch as my heart begins to weep.  Melting…thou hast ne’er seen such a sight as that of one’s own heart melting in the icy grip of the Lady.  Her dark cowl hides the burning eyes I feel piercing my empty vessel, waiting for the recognition of my soullessness to ignite within mine own.  She waits, and I can almost taste her bitter pleasure crashing over me in waves as she waits for my corpse to fall.  She knows I am no longer alive, though yet I breathe and think.  She knows she holds my very life-source within her unfeeling grasp.  She knows my deepest desire, and she has stolen from me that desperate need.  As I watch the muscle of emotion dripping from her bony fingers, I realize that ne’er had I wanted such love as I had found.  Nay, the love I craved was not the love I needed.  I realize what a favor the Lady has done for me, and with my last ability to move, I kneel before her and kiss the bloodied blade, dripping with the liquid life stolen from my body.  With my dying breath I whisper her my thanks, and give over my soul into her care willingly.  I know she loves me as I deserve, and she will bring me to a place where cares of the heart matter not.  My heart bursts into flames as she discards it behind us, taking my spirit-hand instead.  She leads us to the brink, and I cross the threshold bolding, feeling for the first time that I am wanted, that I belong.
